Blood lactate testing is the gold standard for accurate FTP data.

Detailed analysis of results

Digital copy and paper printout of test results with graph. Real FTP figure in watts, triangulated with heart rate and blood lactate data. No estimating through an FTP test with only HR and power data during a sustained effort that is highly variable and usually overestimates your real FTP. Performing an FTP test without blood lactate can give you a rough estimation but is influenced by on-the-day motivation and energy/ fatigue levels.

BSc (Hons) in Sport, Fitness, & Coaching, graduating with first class honours. Registered with the chartered Institute for the management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) at personal training practitioner level. Focus L3 Personal Trainer qualification. Diploma in Health Management and many other qualifications going back to 2004. Currently studying a Masters degree in Clinical Nutrition.
